| 内容記述 | This paper is a brief content of the lectures that I have given at Saitama University over the years. It is not just a summary of all the books on the history of the English language I have read so far, but a unique article with original perspective and knowledge of European culture, literature, and history that I have acquired through my life as a university lecturer. The theme of my graduation thesis was the writing-style of Hemingway and the theme of my masterʼs thesis was Sir Walter Scottʼs sense of history. Therefore, Iʼm especially particular about English and American literature. Naturally, the tendency to literature is reflected in this paper. But I believe that the history of literature and the history of the language are inextricably linked, so I would like to emphasize that fact and try to quote as many original texts of the literary works as possible. The English used here is American English, and the level of English is the general liberal arts level of the university. This is a record of English history that I would like many English learners to have, in order for them to acquire a more comprehensive understanding of the historical, linguistic, political, and cultural background of English. In addition, this will mention the future of English, as an ideal form of the global language. | |||||
